What Happens Next
Questions Families Ask
Who is it for?
Students in grades 9 to 12 (ages 14 to 18) who plan to take the ACT, either as a first diagnostic before prep or as a final check before test day.
Is this the real ACT?
No. It is a full-length practice test written by Nova Scholars to match the enhanced ACT's format and timing, with each question modeled on one from an official released ACT form. Scores are estimated ranges, not official ACT scores, and ACT does not endorse Nova Scholars.
Why is it so inexpensive for new families?
Outschool's referral program gives families new to Outschool up to $50 off their first class. The full price is $55, so a new family pays as low as $5 plus Outschool's marketplace fee, which is shown at checkout before you pay. Nova Scholars receives a referral reward from Outschool when a new family creates an account through our link and attends a class.
Can we pay with ESA or state education funds?
Yes. Our Outschool listing accepts ESA and ClassWallet funds. Use the state picker on this page to see whether Outschool supports your state's program and how to pay.
Does the new-family price work with ESA funds?
Outschool decides how its new-family discount applies to purchases made with program funds. If you plan to pay with ESA or scholarship funds, ask Outschool support before you buy.
What do we get after the test?
Within 5 business days, a score report in your Outschool messages: an estimated range for each section, an estimated Composite range, up to three skills to practice in each section, and a pacing note. You also get a certificate of completion and an attendance record.
When should my student take it?
Two to four weeks before an official ACT date leaves time to work on the skills the report names. The upcoming ACT dates are listed above.
What is the schedule on test day?
Check-in starts at 10:00 AM Central. Students take English and Math, then a 10-minute break, then Reading and Science, the same order and break as the real enhanced ACT. Use the schedule above to see every section in your own time zone.
How long is it?
About 3 hours 15 minutes including check-in and the break. Students not taking Science finish after Reading, around 12:30 PM Central.
Is Science required?
No. Science is optional on the enhanced ACT. Students who skip it may leave after Reading, and their score report covers English, Math, and Reading.
What does my student need?
A quiet space, a computer with a working camera, a pencil, scratch paper, and a calculator permitted under ACT's calculator policy. Not sure yours is allowed? See which calculators ACT allows.
Does my student have to be on camera?
Yes. Cameras stay on for the whole test, and the proctor is on camera the whole time too. That keeps conditions close to a real test center.
How does my student log in?
Before class, Nova Scholars creates your student's Pear Assessment account and sends the login in an Outschool message. On test day the test waits, paused, and opens once your student joins the Zoom on camera.
Who proctors the test?
Daa'iyah Na'im, Ed.S., a licensed teacher and school administrator and the founder of Nova Scholars.
Is there any teaching during the test?
No. The session is practice under real conditions only. The teaching starts with the score report.
How exact are the scores?
Each section gets an estimated score range of plus or minus 2 points. A range is more honest than a single number for one practice sitting.
How is the Composite estimated?
On the enhanced ACT, the Composite comes from English, Math, and Reading. Science gets its own score. The report gives an estimated Composite range when all three are taken.
Is there an essay?
No. The practice test covers the four multiple-choice sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science.
